PRESS RELEASE
National Tongue Tie Centre Shortlisted for Prestigious Irish Healthcare Award
8 September 2025 – The National Tongue Tie Centre has been shortlisted for the Irish Healthcare Awards' Patient Education Project of the Year (non-pharmaceutical) category in recognition of its innovative educational platform addressing oral restrictions.
Ireland’'s leading provider of medical and therapeutic services for oral restrictions, the centre has been recognised for developing the comprehensive Tongue Tie Toolbox – an evidence-based online educational platform designed to enhance clinical knowledge and public awareness of ankyloglossia.
The annual Irish Healthcare Awards, hosted by The Irish Medical Times, recognise excellence in patient care, medical research, public health, and healthcare management across Ireland. This year's ceremony will honour winners across 22 categories, selected from a distinguished shortlist of nearly 70 nominees, at a gathering of over 500 healthcare professionals in November.
Clinical Impact and Educational Innovation
The Tongue Tie Toolbox represents a significant advancement in healthcare education, offering structured courses that equip both healthcare professionals and families with essential knowledge for identifying and managing oral dysfunctions, particularly ankyloglossia. This resource addresses a critical gap in clinical education around a condition affecting 5-10% of the population.
Ankyloglossia occurs when the lingual frenulum is abnormally short, thick, or inelastic, resulting in restricted tongue mobility. While immediately impacting neonatal feeding efficiency, untreated ankyloglossia can progress to affect speech articulation, breathing, sleep quality, and postural development throughout childhood and into adulthood.
The Centre's educational initiative supports evidence-based clinical decision-making and empowers families and professionals with reliable information, ultimately improving patient outcomes across the care continuum.
